VLC VideoLan Player installation

Let this page be open to guide you through the installation.

Download the VLC Player

Note: The VLC Player version 0.9.2. has serious bugs for playing embedded video and audio files. If the "Go to" site below has not updated VLC to later version, you can download a working version by clicking this link:
VLC 0.8.6i (for Windows only)

Go to VLC download page

When the page has opened, click the link that match your operating system and start the downloading of the VLC Player. Note where you store it on your hard disk.

1. Installing the VLC Player, step 1

Locate where you downloaded the software to your hard disk, click on it and follow the below guidelines.

2. Select language

Select the language to use by scrolling the list with languages and then click the OK button.

3.1 Remove old version, step 1

If you do not see the above "remove the previous version" popup then go to step 4, else just click the Yes button and follow the guides here in step 3.

3.2 Remove old version, select language

Just click the OK button.

3.3 Remove old version, select uninstall folder

Just click the Next button.

3.4 Remove old version, Choose Components

DO NOT click in the "Delete preferences and cache". Just click on the Uninstall button.

When completed, click on the Finish button.

4. VLC Setup Wizard

Just click on the Next button.

5. License Agreement

Just click the "I Agree" button.

6. Choose Components

Scroll the options list (scroller to the right). Then, select all options (optional components) by clicking the little box to the left of each choice to create a green checkmark. DO NOT forget the "Mozilla plugin" and the "ActiveX plugin".

DO NOT click in the box for "Delete preferences and cache".

Scroll down to see "File type associations" and click on the plus sign. Here you can click on the plus sign for "Audio Files" and remove the green checkmarks for .wav and .wma if you use Windows. For "Video Files", you can do the same for .wmv

When done, click the Next button.

7. Choose Install Location

Here, the installation program probably suggests to install on the disk "C:". You can choose any other disk by changing the C: to D: or whatever disk you have in your system.

If you feel that the C: disk is ok to use, just click the Install button.

When the installation is completed, click the Finish button.

8. Policy notation

After clicking the Finish button, or after starting VLC for the first time, a popup may appear asking you a couple of policy questions. Here, select "Manually" and "Activate notifications about available updates" and then click the OK button.
