HELP

Searching

When you have decided what to search for (audio, video, images):

1. first be very specific. For instance, include both the (song/video) title and artist's name. Or, for a movie, just the title.
2. then, if too few results, remove some words from the title or remove the name of the artist.

Since we have no spell checker, yet, be sure to spell the words correctly.

You can move the mouse pointer over any symbol to get more info about it and, as you can see, the symbols for controlling the results are the same regardless of the type of result. The symbols have the following meaning:

Transcode (convert) to other format.

Excluding offensive results:

If you look in the Pornography box you will see that it might be set to Maybe . This means that PlayAudioVideo will remove some results that have offensive content. You can set this even stricter by selecting Avoid or you can choose to move such results to the very end by selecting Put last. Note however, that the number of results will decrease if you make one of these selections because PlayAudioVideo will reduce results even for words that are considered not so offensive. To show all results, including all offensive results, select Allow.

More tips

You can imagine PlayAudioVideo as a library with millions of titles. Titles for videos, songs (audio files) and images.

Of course, PlayAudioVideo looks at much more data than the title when creating the search engine, but knowing that you search for titles will help you get better search results. In analogy, when you look at the backside of a CD box with, for instance, Madonna, it does not list the songs as Madonna, Madonna, Madonna, .... Instead, the backside lists the titles of the songs like: (1) Sorry, (2) The power of good bye, (3) Beautiful stranger, and so on.

Search operators:

AND is automatic. So if you enter word1 word2, both words must exist in the result, or near the result. You may enter as many words you like, for instance Andrea Bocelli, or, Andrea Bocelli Time To Say Goodbye. However, usually you will get less results the more words you include.

Phrases, typing "word1 word2", i.e. within " will make PlayAudioVideo show only results where the words word1 and word2 are adjacent and either included in the file or located near the file. For instance "celine dion". You can mix with words outside the phrase, for instance "celine dion" The Power Of Love.

Subtraction, i.e. -word1 -word2, will help you filter out all results where any subtracted words exist. However, PlayAudioVideo may still show some results where the subtracted words exists, if those results have a high rank.

The Video result

Sometimes it was not possible to create the playable clip. However, you can still try and Play the file or go to its Homepage.

Besides indexing the multimedia found on pages, PlayAudioVideo also indexes multimedia found within bittorrent files. For those type of results, the video screen will be static and just say "Bittorrent file". Bittorrent is a common, and very fast, way to share files on the internet. To download bittorrent files, you need a special program. Click here to download such a program. You can read more about bittorrent by clicking this link.

When you click on the Play link, some files might take a while before they start playing. The reason for this is either that it is a very large file, it is not in streaming format or you do not have the player program installed on your computer. If the video will not play, either go to the Homepage of the video or go to the link Players for help.

If you decide to Transcode (convert) a video, first click on the Play link to test if the video is playable. If not, it is no use trying to Transcode it.

The Audio result

If PlayAudioVideo could not fetch the audio file to create the playable clip, the pre-Listen link will not be displayed. However, you can still try and Play the file or go to its Homepage.

Just as with videos, PlayAudioVideo indexes audio files that are located within bittorrent files. If the audio result is of type bittorrent, it will say so and you can either go to the Homepage or Download the bittorrent file. Bittorrent is a common, and very fast, way to share files on the internet. To download bittorrent files, you need a special program. Click here to download such a program. When you click on the Play link, some files might take a while before they start playing. If you decide to Transcode an audio file, first click on the Play link to test if the audio file is playable. If not, it is no use trying to Transcode it.

Many audio files on the internet already use the mp3 format. For such files, you usually do not need to Transcode it.
